Tell Democrats to Support Gov. Cooper and Oppose the Republican Budget
Thirteen Democrats in the North Carolina State House voted in favor of the Republican House budget, even though it failed to fully fund our public schools. Gov. Cooper’s budget, on the other hand, made great strides towards raising teacher pay to the national average and erasing years of education cuts.
- The House budget only calls for HALF of what Gov. Cooper proposed for new education spending next year.
- The House budget falls 36% short of Governor Cooper’s proposed per pupil funding increase.
- The House budget increases average teacher pay only 3.3% next year, while Gov. Cooper proposed a 5% increase.
- The House budget includes no money to help teachers cover out- of-pocket classroom supply expenses, while Gov. Cooper offered a $150 stipend for all classroom teachers to help offset teachers’ out-of-pocket expenses.
Now House and Senate leaders will negotiate a final budget. Call these Democratic representatives and tell them to support Gov. Cooper and oppose the final budget vote.
